Editors
and reporters in more than 1,300 newsrooms throughout the country, and
public policy professionals in 500 lobbying offices, receive our daily
aggregation of press releases, reports, and other news items from the
web pages of 2,300 federal agencies, Capitol Hill offices, and
interest groups (including thinktanks and watchdog organizations) of
every imaginable purpose and persuasion.
PublicPolicyMatters is a project of the Institute for Public
Policy Reporting, and is provided as a free service to journalists. (The
Institute is a tax-exempt organization that is financed by foundation
grants and the voluntary contributions of its users.)
Items that
implicate a public policy issue are selected for the report without
consideration of the viewpoints they might express. We do not apply a
litmus test—partisan, ideological, theological or otherwise—in the
selection of news items. Our daily reports consistently introduce editors
and reporters to ideas not yet imagined, issues not yet confronted,
viewpoints not yet express and—most importantly—to articles not yet
written.
We do, however,
discard press releases—and thereby save valuable time—that are devoid of
public policy-related news value. We further save time by using links that
directly display the document, thus eliminating the time-wasting need to
drill through a hierarchy of directories, subdirectories, folders and
subfolders to land on the sought-after document.
