Frequently asked questions:
Do you really visit more than 2,300 websites every night?
Yes, we do. Our nightly examination of 2,300 websites is facilitated by a special software program, called a spider by some and a robot by others, that electronically visits the webpages that are on our monitoring list. Each page that is flagged by the robot is reviewed by an editor to determine if the press release meets our standards, and then log the press release and its URL into our report file.
Does every press release you find go into your reports?
No. We select only those press releases that meet our standards and policies. At a bare minimum, only press releases that invoke a public policy issue are considered.
Isn't your website merely a press release distribution service?
While it is true that we distribute press releases (and other informational materials), it doesn't mean that we are a press release distribution service. There are several websites that operate as press release distribution services, charging fees to post press releases and claiming (usually falsely) that their website is visited by thousands of journalists.
In contrast, Government Policy Newslinks does not accept any form of compensation for including a press release in its reports. Instead, our editors proactively seek information and apply their independent editorial judgment to determine if a particular press release can help meet the news and information needs of our subscribers.Who subscribes to Government Policy Newslinks?
Nearly all of our subscribers are editors or reporters who are working in print and broadcast newsrooms throughout the country; or, they are lawyers who provide government relations services to their clients, or lobbyists who work in the government affairs offices of major corporations and trade associations.
